Does Lasik Cure Presbyopia?

Do you know how many eyes you have? If you’re like most people, the answer is probably “one or two.” Many people are unaware of the fact that they even have functioning eyes. The human eye has a blind spot directly in front of the eye. It has another directly to the rear of it. Most people do not even realize that their other vision is functioning and providing them with visual input from time to time. This blog will help you discover if Lasik cures presbyopia or not. Presbyopia is an age-related condition that affects most adults by age 40. It refers to a decrease in lens power, also known as refractive error, which makes reading and viewing close objects difficult. It may cause reading glasses, reading computer screens, reading maps and drawings, and watching television at an average seating distance to become uncomfortable or frustrating after some time.

What is Presbyopia?

Presbyopia is when the eye is unable to focus on objects close up. It happens as we age and is usually the result of the eye’s gradual loss of elasticity in the lens capsule. It affects about half of the people aged 40 and above. The lens of the eye is responsible for focusing light on the retina. The retina is a light-sensitive tissue that helps convert light into nerve impulses that are then processed by the brain to form images. The lens gradually loses its flexibility with age and becomes more rigid and less elastic. While this does not affect an individual’s vision at all while they are young, it starts to affect the eye in people after they turn 40.

Why does Presbyopia Develop?

As your age increases, the lens in your eyes becomes more rigid and less flexible. Ciliary muscles in your eyes lose their flexibility as you age. These smooth muscle rings in your eyes determine the lens’s focus on nearby and faraway objects. Your lens becomes hardened. Therefore your ciliary muscles become weakened. As a result, your lens cannot focus light correctly on the retina to produce clear vision when looking at nearby objects. Instead, light is concentrated behind the retina, causes blurry vision when looking at nearby things.

How Lasik Works to Cure Presbyopia?

Lasik surgery is performed to reshape the cornea and produce a new, wetter surface layer in the back of the eye. The eye is then flushed with a laser to reshape the tissue layer. The result is that the eye has a more flexible, wetter surface. The laser reshapes the cornea’s surface, making it thinner and more elastic. The tissue flap in front of the cornea is behind the cornea, extending the effective length of the lens and increasing lens power.

Is Lasik a good Treatment for Presbyopia?

If you are near-sighted, Lasik eye surgery may be a good option. It will help your near-sightedness and reduce the need to wear glasses or contact lenses. However, it is essential to remember that Lasik surgery can have some associated risks, such as dry eyes and eye inflammation. Therefore, if you are considering Lasik eye surgery, you must discuss your medical concerns with your doctor first.

One of the main benefits of Lasik surgery for presbyopia is that the patient does not need to use glasses or contacts anymore. In addition, the procedure can help improve vision by restoring or enhancing near-sightedness in already near-sighted patients. It allows the patient to see things more clearly. Therefore, if you are near-sighted and want to improve your vision, then opt for Lasik eye surgery!

My Experience with Presbyopia and how Lasik treated it.

I had been wearing reading glasses for the past few years, and the distance between me and the computer screen was frustrating. So, I decided to get Lasik done. I ended up getting Lasik done on both my eyes. The doctor explained that the Lasik procedure is not just about reshaping my cornea but also my eyes’ distance-related focusing mechanism. Therefore, my doctor told me to remain out of the office for the first 24 hours. It was done so that the medicine could be absorbed well into my eyes.

The day after returning to the office, the doctor had me lie down and put on special goggles. He then showed me how my eyes had changed after the procedure. My eyes looked very natural, and I had no clue there was anything different about them.

The doctor told me that the Lasik procedure was painless and that I probably didn’t feel anything during the process. I was glad to hear that because I’m not a fan of needles.
