What is Wavelight® Plus InnovEyes?

Wavelight® Plus InnovEyes by Alcon is the first refractive technology that measures the full optical system of each eye and creates a completely personalised LASIK treatment plan using automated ray-tracing calculations.

Unlike standard LASIK or lenticular extraction procedures, Wavelight® Plus doesn’t just correct your prescription. It maps the entire optical pathway of your eye cornea, lens, and retina in three dimensions, and corrects even the subtle, complex imperfections called higher-order aberrations that glasses, contact lenses, and non-customised procedures cannot address.

These higher-order aberrations are responsible for visual symptoms like halos, starbursts, and double vision especially at night. By correcting them, Wavelight® Plus delivers not just clear vision, but exceptional visual quality.

How is it Different from Other Procedures?

Feature Non-Customised* Wavelight® Plus
Basic eye prescription measurement
Customised to your individual eye
Incorporates eye surface irregularity measurements into surgical plan
Creates a virtual 3D model of your eye
Total customisation maximises quality of vision
Corrects higher-order aberrations (halos, starbursts, double vision)

*Non-customised includes: Lenticular Extraction Procedures.

How Does Wavelight® Plus Work?

The entire procedure is quick, bladeless, and takes only minutes per eye. The laser treatment itself takes approximately 10–15 seconds per eye. You will receive numbing eye drops for comfort during the procedure.

Step 1: Creating Your 3D Digital Eye Model

The procedure begins with the InnovEyes SightMap diagnostic device a single instrument that captures three types of measurements: Scheimpflug tomography (corneal mapping), Hartmann-Shack wavefront analysis, and interferometry (axial length). Together, these create a highly detailed 3D virtual model of your eye  called an “eyevatar” which forms the foundation of your personalised treatment plan.

Step 2: AI-Guided Personalised Treatment Planning

The Wavelight® Plus software analyses your eye model using automated ray-tracing. It virtually traces thousands of light rays through your eye’s optical system to calculate the precise corrections needed not just for your prescription (sphere and cylinder), but also for higher-order aberrations and even the optical tilt between your cornea and lens. The software also accounts for expected healing patterns, biomechanical changes, and adjusts its calculations accordingly. The result is a treatment plan that is uniquely optimised for your eyes.

Step 3: Bladeless Laser Procedure

Flap Creation: The Femto second laser creates a thin corneal flap  entirely bladeless, using a laser instead of a mechanical blade.

Vision Correction: The EX500 excimer laser then reshapes your cornea based on the personalised ray-tracing treatment plan. Unlike previous methods that treated sphere and cylinder separately, Wavelight® Plus corrects your prescription and higher-order aberrations simultaneously in a single pass, for more precise results.

Recovery: Patients typically notice improved vision from day one and can return to work the next day.

Why Choose Wavelight® Plus at Visual Aids Centre?

Fully Personalised: The first and only US-FDA approved procedure that measures your entire optical system and creates a 100% customised treatment for each eye.

Better-Than-Standard Vision: Clinical data shows patients achieving 20/16, 20/12.5, and even 20/10 vision surpassing what standard 20/20 correction delivers.

Corrects What Others Can’t: Addresses higher-order aberrations responsible for halos, starbursts, and double vision imperfections that glasses, contacts, and non-customised procedures cannot fix.

Quick and Bladeless: Laser treatment takes approximately 10–15 seconds per eye. The entire procedure uses femtosecond laser technology no blades involved.

Proven Satisfaction: 99% of patients said they would undergo the procedure again, and 99% would recommend it to friends and family (PROWL questionnaire, 3 months post-op, n=106).

Rapid Recovery: Noticeable vision improvement from day one. Most patients return to work the next day.

Backed by Alcon: Performed using Alcon’s advanced refractive suite (FS200 + EX500), supported by world-class Alcon Vision Suite technology.

Long-Term Results (24-Month Data)

In a separate clinical study of 20 patients (40 eyes) followed for 24 months:

  • 65% of eyes gained at least one line of vision beyond their pre-operative best-corrected vision.
  • 38% of eyes gained two full lines of vision meaning post-operative uncorrected vision exceeded what the best glasses could achieve before surgery.
  • Contrast sensitivity improved across all spatial frequencies at 24 months compared to pre-operative levels.
  • Refractive stability was maintained from 1 month through 24 months post-operatively.
  • Patients reported high subjective satisfaction across quality of vision, night vision, near vision, and comfort during daily activities (VFQ-25 questionnaire at 24 months).

Frequently Asked Questions

Wavelight® Plus InnovEyes is a US-FDA approved, fully personalised LASIK procedure by Alcon. It uses 3D ray-tracing technology to map the complete optical system of each eye and create a customised treatment plan that corrects both your prescription and subtle visual imperfections called higher-order aberrations.

Standard LASIK corrects your basic prescription (sphere and cylinder). Wavelight® Plus goes further  it measures your entire eye in three dimensions using a single diagnostic device (the SightMap), and uses automated ray-tracing to correct higher-order aberrations as well. These are the subtle imperfections that cause visual symptoms like halos, starbursts, and double vision, which standard procedures and glasses cannot address.

Lenticular extraction procedures that are flapless but non-customised  they correct your basic prescription based on standard measurements. Wavelight® Plus is a flap-based LASIK procedure, but it is fully customised to each individual eye. It creates a 3D model of your eye, measures surface irregularities, and corrects higher-order aberrations that lenticular extraction procedures do not address.

Yes. The corneal flap is created using the FS200 femtosecond laser not a blade. The vision correction is performed by the EX500 excimer laser. The entire procedure is bladeless.

The laser treatment itself takes approximately 10–15 seconds per eye. The entire procedure, including preparation, takes only a matter of minutes per eye.

In the 24-month clinical study, refractive stability was maintained from 1 month through 24 months post-operatively, indicating durable results. The Wavelight® Plus software also accounts for expected healing patterns and potential changes over time in its treatment calculations.

Yes. The 24-month clinical study documented the procedure as safe and effective for the correction of myopia and myopic astigmatism. No significant adverse events were reported during the study period. The procedure uses Alcon’s established FS200 and EX500 laser platform, which has a proven safety track record.

Visual Aids Centre offers this advanced procedure performed by experienced surgeons using the complete Alcon refractive suite. Our team provides comprehensive pre-operative evaluation, personalised treatment planning, and dedicated post-operative care to ensure the best possible outcomes for your vision.

In clinical studies, 98% of patients achieved 20/20 vision or better, 82% achieved 20/16 or better (super vision), and 45% achieved 20/12.5 or better (eagle’s eye vision) at 3 months post-op (n=212 eyes). In a 24-month follow-up study, 65% of patients saw better uncorrected vision after surgery than their best-corrected vision with glasses before surgery.

Wavelight® Plus is specifically designed to correct higher-order aberrations, which are the primary cause of halos, starbursts, and double vision. By addressing these imperfections, the procedure aims to deliver not just clear vision but excellent visual quality, including at night.

Most patients notice improved vision from day one. Recovery is rapid, and most patients can return to work the next day. Vision continues to improve and stabilise over the following weeks.

Wavelight® Plus is approved for patients aged 18 to 65 with myopia up to −10 dioptres and astigmatism up to −4 dioptres. You will need a minimum corneal thickness of 500 μm. Patients with previous eye surgery, keratoconus or keratoconus suspect, significant dry eye, or certain corneal conditions may not be eligible. A comprehensive consultation at Visual Aids Centre will determine your suitability.

The eyevatar is a virtual 3D digital model of your eye, created by the SightMap diagnostic device. It captures the unique characteristics of your cornea, lens, and entire optical system. This model is then used by the Wavelight® Plus software to calculate your personalised treatment plan using ray-tracing technology.

The Wavelight® Plus software uses automated computational ray-tracing to analyse thousands of virtual light rays passing through your eye model and calculate the optimal correction. This automated, data-driven calculation process is what is referred to as AI-powered in the context of this procedure.
