MONICA CHAUDHRY B.Sc, Optometry (AIIMS), FIACLE

(Fellow of International Association of Contact Lens Educators, Australia)

Senior Optometrist, Contact Lens, Low Vision Aids & Lasik Consultant
Formerly, Senior Optometrist & Educator at Dr.R.P.Centre, All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

The Core areas of specialty are Customized Contact Lenses for Irregular Corneas, Scleral Lenses, Low Vision Devices and Pediatric Refraction.

Graduate from AIIMS in optometry (1986), presently pursuing her masters in optometry is also a Fellow of IACLE (International association of Contact lens Educators).

In a career spanning over two decades as senior optometrist and educator at ALL INDIA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES she has worked extensively in the areas of Contact lens and Low vision aids and refraction, with a special interest in difficult contact lens fittings and comprehensive and low vision eye exams. Her more than twenty years of experience in prescribing and aftercare management of contact lenses, especially in therapeutic and cosmetic cases, has resulted in a thorough knowledge of the subject. Her main areas of specialization are on KERATOCONUS , corneal opacities and irregular corneas  and post corrective surgery (Radial Keratectomy, Photo-Refractive Keratectomy and LASIK surgery) corneal fitting. The custom made lenses can fit even the most distorted corneas.

She also has vast experience as an educator and trainer and covered many training programs, presented papers and Chaired Several National Scientific Conferences. Besides these present commitments, she still has time to train and conduct conferences and seminars in .

She is also Part time consultant and educator for Bachelor in optometry program at IGNOU is also Appointed as TVCI faculty ( The Vision Care Institute ) for Johnson and  Johnson , and Appointed as Chief Technical Advisor for Transition India

She has been awarded “Shreshtshree” Title for the achievements in medical field by The Delhi citizen forum in 1994.

She has authored three books: Low vision 2006: Contact lens Primer 2007: and  Refraction and lens prescription 2009

She has been recently been trained in Scleral contact lenses at . Scleral contact lenses play a significant role in visual rehabilitation of corneal abnormalities like Primary Corneal Ectasia (PCE) especially Keratoconus, Post Corneal transplant and Ocular surface disorders(OSD) like Dry eye.

Besides being successful in fitting almost all types of refractive errors , her specialty is to fit Lenses can be customised to suit each eye solution to fitting even the most difficult cases like Keratoconus, Paediatric Contact Lenses ,  Post-surgical & Irregular Cornea with a high degree of success.

Lenses Like:

  •         ROSE K FAMILY OF LENSES that is Rose K2 / Rose K , Rose K2 IC  and Rose  K2 Post Graft lenses.

The Rose K Lens is specifically designed lenses for Keratoconus , which follows more closely the corneal shape. These lenses report improvements in visual acuity, lens centration and comfort, an increase in overall fitting success.

Rose K2 IC (Irregular Cornea) and K2 Post Graft lenses are large diameter, reverse geometry, intralimbal lenses with aberration control aspheric optics for Pellucid Marginal Degeneration, Keratoglobus, Post Graft, LASIK- induced Ectasia, Post PRK, large oval, sagging cones and patients with irregular corneas due to trauma. These Contact lenses offer a good modality to delay the requirement for penetrating keratoplasty.

  •        THE KERASOFT® IC LENS

This is a soft contact lens which enable successful fitting of irregular corneas with soft lenses.

  •       SCLERAL  LENSES

The Scleral Lens provides a protective shell and therapeutic reservoir, and it has improved vision in patients for whom nothing else works. The most frequent indication for Scleral lenses is Keratoconus,( even for lower grades of keratoconus where there are problems with corneal lens tolerance ) but they have applications for post corneal transplant, Traumatized eye ,Post-refractive surgery,  high myopia, aphakia and high astigmatism. The retention of a pre-corneal liquid reservoir offers unique therapeutic potential which may assist in the management of dry eye conditions such as severe dry eyes, ocular cicatricial pemphigoid, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, persistent epithelial defects. Advances in lens design make scleral rigid gas-permeable lenses a practical option for an increasing number and variety of patients with corneal disease and any type of irregular corneal topography can be fitted with some kind of scleral lens. They are almost never dislodged because they fit under the eyelids.

So if you are in need of a complicated contact lens fit, rest assured that VISUAL AIDS CENTRE can meet your needs.

We offer all types of low vision devices:

At VISUAL AIDS CENTRE our goal is to help people with vision impairments maintain their independence through the use of optical, non-optical, or electronic vision aids.
